Competition Details
AIM Institute is hosting its first Youth IT Competition as a part of Infotec 2012. Join the fun and win great prizes! You may either enter the video competition or the mobile app development competition as a team or an individual. This competition is open to high school and college students. All team members must agree to complete the online Careerlink.com/Student profile. Inappropriate submissions or those not following contest guidelines will be disqualified. To take part, find a teacher or adult sponsor that is willing to sponsor you, then register below. Here are the contest details:
Video Contest – “Everyday IT in the Life of a Student”
- Create a YouTube video that illustrates how students use IT in their everyday lives.
- Your video must be one minute or less in length.
- Your video must include an Introduction, Body and Conclusion.
- No commercial music may be used in your video (to prevent copyright issues).
- Upload your video to YouTube and submit the URL for the contest review process.
Mobile App Contest – “College Finder App”
- Develop a mobile app that allows people to find information about colleges/universities in Nebraska and Iowa (i.e. financial aid, housing, sports, internships, campus size, cost, etc.)
- Your app must be developed using Android OS 2.2 (or higher), Apple iOS 4 (or higher) or HTML5.
- Your app must include the ability to email results to the searcher.
- Your app must include a minimum of 5 demographic search categories.
- Submit a copy of your app to download onto a mobile phone for the testing process.
- Your source code may be requested if there’s a question of authenticity.
Important Dates to Remember
- December 22, 2011 – “Youth @ Infotec” Registration Opens to Students
- March 31, 2012 – Video & Mobile App Contest Entry Deadline
- April 1, 2012 – Registration Deadline to Attend the April 18 Conference
- April 18, 2012 – Students Attend the “Youth @ Infotec” Event for FREE (All high school students must be accompanied by a teacher sponsor.)
Winner’s Circle
The Winner’s Circle is open to all teams who enter the Video or Mobile App Contests. These teams will be put into a drawing to win a prize at the “Youth @ Infotec” event. The top 5 teams will receive special recognition at the Infotec Conference and be put into a drawing to win a prize at the “Youth @ Infotec” event. Remember, you can’t win if you don’t enter!
High School Registration

High School Teachers and team sponsors are admitted free of charge to Infotec 2012! Simply click the red button (to the right) and register yourself for the all-day “Youth@Infotec” conference and luncheon on Wednesday April 18th. If you will bring students to the conference, they must register as well (using the link in the next paragraph). If you are a student and would like to enter the Video and/or Mobile App competition (more information) OR attend the Youth @ Infotec conference and luncheon, please complete this registration. In addition, your adult sponsor needs to register himself/herself for the conference (directly above) and must be present with the team during the conference.
College Registration

College students can attend Infotec 2012 conference and luncheon free of charge! You must be currently enrolled at a post-secondary institution of higher learning in order to qualify. Get registered early to reserve your seat before the conference sells out! If you plan to also enter the Video or App Development contest, be sure to also complete the competition entry form (below).
